Christie canceled a scheduled appearance Wednesday at the Conservative Leadership Project in SC.
His brother handily defeated John McCain in the 2000 SC primary, which allowed him to solidify support and eventually secure the Republican nomination. Ted Cruz, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and Florida Sen.
“The only candidate who can beat Donald Trump is me”, he said.
Seeking endorsements from any rivals that quit the race, Trump said of Christie, “He’s a friend of mine”.
