BMW Turns The M2 Coupe Into A MotoGP Safety Car

BMW has revealed its latest MotoGP safety auto, this time based on the new M2 Coupe. These include front and side sill attachments, rear diffuser and mirror caps. Each one is created to offer better aerodynamic performance and further emphasize the aggressive nature of the compact coupe. When installed together, BMW claims they improve the airflow of the M2 Coupe. Meanwhile the Track setting further intensifies the volume and character of the exhaust sound, perceptibly enhancing its emotional flair. The exhaust system is operated through Bluetooth and customers can choose between two different exhaust tips and pipe diameters. The second has carbon fiber trim and a diameter of 93mm. For some extra gusto, BMW also fitted an M Performance exhaust system and intake, and stopping duties are aided by a prototype M Performance carbon-ceramic brake rotor kit. This reduces ground clearance by at least five millimeters as compared to the standard suspension. The adjustable shocks offer 16 levels in the rebound stage and 12 in the compression stage, allowing the driver to tailor the setup to personal preference. An essential part of racing safety, Dorna Sports and M Division signed a partnership in 2014 that extends to 2020 for the use of BMW vehicles.

The interior is trimmed in a mix of leather, alcantara and carbon fibre, with a full roll-cage, Recaro racing seats and Schroth multipoint harnesses, a fuel suction pump and battery master switch, M Performance stainless-steel pedal pads, an M steering wheel hand-trimmed in alcantara and a quick-release fire extinguisher ready to hand. Also available will be an M Performance steering wheel with race display and carbon fiber trim. There are also two choices for the sports steering wheel, the first being the M Performance Pro steering wheel with the grip areas clad in Alcantara and a harder foam body than the standard steering wheel, resulting in “better grip and a more precise steering feel”. BMW says they are derived from motorsports and have a particularly high resistance to thermal stress and have fading resistance tendencies under extreme use.
