Bush was set to finish third or fourth in in the primary, behind victor Donald Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R). His strategy was that a strong finish in New Hampshire would boost his national profile and help fundraising. But he headed into 2016 with money issues.
Borges: “As we narrow the field down it helps consolidate some of the support behind the candidate who has the positive message and the vision and the record”.
“You want someone there who has a steady hand, who has a backbone and knows how to lead, who can comfort people when they feel scared – who can do kinda like my brother did after 9/11”, he said.
The event came a day after congressman and long-time civil rights leader John Lewis endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, and said he doesn’t recall meeting Sanders during key events of the 1960s civil rights era.
“It’s a long race. I do not expect it from someone seeking the Democratic nomination”, Clinton said in a sharp exchange at the close of the two-hour debate.
“We’re going to compete here”, he told CNN’s Jamie Gangel.
“I am starting to really think we are on to something”, Kasich told reporters on his campaign plane.
“There’s something that’s going on that I’m not sure that anybody can quite understand”.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Jeb Bush’s campaign is expected to begin airing a radio advertisement in the Palmetto State featuring the former president.
Cruz’s home state of Texas, for instance, has a 20% threshold.
Kasich got in the race late, on July 21, and surged from the back of the pack by focusing nearly all of his time and efforts on New Hampshire.
At his first post-New Hampshire event, in Bluffton, S.C., Bush tied Trump to President Obama and Hillary Clinton.
He raised $5.2 million in the 18 hours after polls closed in New Hampshire, his campaign announced.
“The people of New Hampshire have taught me a lesson”, he added.
Trump nonetheless peppered the remainder of remarks with words that might raise eyebrows, referring to negative ads against him as “all crap” and recounting his decision to run with the sentence, “Damn it, I’m just going to do it myself”.
“We can attract the Democrats”, he said, talking about the general election. It won him endorsements from newspapers including the New York Times, but it also drew opposition from conservatives and raised questions about how it will be received in the South.
Kasich staked his hopes for the GOP nomination on a good showing in New Hampshire and is now ensured of continuing the race in SC and Nevada. Moreover, a Winthrop University poll taken in December found that 93 percent of likely South Carolina GOP presidential primary voters disapprove of Obama’s job performance.

Clinton and Sanders meet for what is likely to be a contentious PBS “NewsHour” Democratic debate that will be simulcast on CNN Thursday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while remaining GOP candidates have their own showdown in Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday. It’s you, ‘” Kasich told hundreds of jubilant supporters here.
