Chelsea must reach final to save season – Thibaut Courtois

In order for Chelsea to reach the top four, they will have to win around 90% of their remaining matches whilst hoping a majority of their competitors falter, which seems highly unlikely.

The Premier League champions’ title defence crumbled into ruin well before Christmas, with Jose Mourinho being relieved of his duties in December after presiding over a disastrous run of results.

These draws haven’t been helpful in our case to climb up the Premier League table as the Blues stand at the 13th position, 2 points behind 12th-place Crystal Palace.

The Champions League and FA Cup still offer a chance of bringing silverware back to Stamford Bridge this season, however, and Courtois insists that nothing less than going deep into either cup competition will do.

Similarly, the belief appears to steadily be returning to the reigning champions, who demonstrated their resiliency with late equalisers against both Everton and Manchester United. Our next three games are against Newcastle in the league, Manchester City for the FA Cup and Paris Saint-Germain at the Champions League, and Courtois is looking forward to get some wins out of this run.

He told Chelsea’s official website that every time they “don’t win in the league” there is “one game less” and a decreasing chance to “get into the top four”. We’ve had too many draws at Stamford Bridge and the supporters deserve a victory.

Thibaut Courtois is confident that Chelsea have what it takes to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League and reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
