Cam: We didn’t lose Super Bowl because of one fumble
Newton understandably did not want to speak with the media following Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Broncos at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. He didn’t really want to speak with the media on Tuesday, but “things have to happen”.

A defiant Cam Newton addressed reporters for the first time since the Carolina Panthers’ MVP quarterback walked out of news conference minutes after his team fell to the Denver Broncos at Super Bowl 50 on Sunday.
When Vince Lombardi said, “show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser”, it ended up in management text books. “I never proclaimed that I was ideal, but at the end of the day, people pick and do things of that sort”, Newton added.
Can you put into words the disappointment you feel right now? “I want players who hate to lose”. But at the end of the day, we didn’t lose that game because of that fumble.
“An unbelievable season. We did what a lot of people didn’t think we could do”, Newton said. “And I don’t have to conform to anyone else’s wants for me”. “I think he still has a little bit left in him”. Trying to crack wise about Newton’s press conference – which involved the star quarterback mumbling responses to reporters’ questions, and then abruptly walking off – O’Brien went, “Cam Newton?”.
“That’s who he is”.
“Obviously, somebody had a great conversation with him and explained it to him and he was able to compose himself and speak to you folks”, Rivera said. We don’t play this game for a participation trophy.
Said Gettleman: “Everybody wants to win. More like fig newton!”
On his reflection in the days after Super Bowl 50: “Well I ain’t got no more tears to cry”. I know, I know, he’s a competitor and competitors don’t take losing very well. “Quite honestly if he is going to take it hard, as a public service, we should avoid having him talk right away”. You can find that here, and be sure to cast your vote for the NFL’s best defense of all time.
Teammates rallied behind Newton on Tuesday.

Tuesday, he was much more descriptive in defending his emotional reaction following the loss.
