California public health department officials on Wednesday said there have been six Zika cases reported in the state since 2013, but the Yolo County case was the first this year.

Last week the CDC issued its own detailed recommendations for preventing sexual transmission of the virus, including the suggestion that men who have traveled to Zika-affected regions consider abstaining from sex with their pregnant partner for the duration of the pregnancy.
The symptoms (fever, rash, joint paint, pink-eye conditions), much like the flu – are rarely fatal. State officials say a lab will be ready to test for Zika within the next week. Residents who have travelled to an area with Zika infection should contact their personal healthcare provider who will work with the Putnam County Department of Health to facilitate the proper testing procedure through the state Department of Health laboratory at Wadsworth Center. “As CDC guidance has evolved, we actually have expanded access to testing for people who had not met that agency’s initial testing criteria”.
Just last month, the World Health Organization said the virus is “spreading explosively” in the Americas.
The virus is mainly transmitted via mosquitoes. “There’s virtually no risk of contracting the Zika virus in New York City at this point, but we’re very concerned about the onset of the mosquito season at the beginning of April”, he told reporters.
Brazilian health authorities believe three adults died past year of suspected complications related to the Zika virus, the Health Ministry said on Thursday.
The commission said he had been confirmed as having the Zika virus on Tuesday and was being treated at the Ganxian People’s Hospital. Still, four out of five people infected will have no symptoms or just mild symptoms.
