Rubio Under Pressure as Republicans Debate in SC
But, coming after he finished in a near-tie with Clinton in Iowa, Sanders’ victory in New Hampshire certifies him as a serious candidate with staying power and an anti-establishment message that resonates as powerfully for many Democrats as Trump’s does for disaffected Republicans.

Republican presidential candidates are gathering here for a debate Saturday night that will be jolted by the sudden death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
So yeah, let’s see what Donald Trump (and others) have to say about George W. Bush when he shows up in public for Jeb.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was expected to drop out after finishing sixth in New Hampshire.
The upcoming votes will be crucial for Clinton, the former secretary of state who admitted in an uneasy concession speech that she had “some work to do, particularly with young people”, to revitalize her campaign. I don’t know if he can get back on his feet, but he was sturdy enough before that late gaffe that he has a shot.
Even before the candidates arrived, the state’s airwaves were being flooded with negative attack ads, with each man hoping to emerge as the mainstream answer to Trump.
He still insisted, though, that Rubio had a much better shot at winning the nomination despite Rubio’s disappointing finish in New Hampshire and will continue to make that case. Neither of the next two Republicans, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, have any reason to leave the race now.
Bush and Kasich, meanwhile, are concentrating their early efforts along the SC coast, which includes many transplants, veterans and active military – and which has trended in the past to more moderate candidates like Mitt Romney, the GOP’s 2012 nominee, and John McCain, the 2008 nominee.
“If we don’t’ come together quickly, we can’t win”, he said. Evangelicals are a key voting bloc in the Bible Belt state and Trump is leading with white evangelicals in the state, according to an NBC/WSJ/Marist poll last month.
The Bush campaign believes the ex-president can have a positive impact in SC, which has a sizable number of USA military facilities and military veterans who have supported the former commander-in-chief. Now six remain; and with Ben Carson going nowhere, only five have a chance to win the nomination. It’s the final debate setting for the New Hampshire survivors before the SC primary February 20. This week’s New Hampshire primary was won by Trump with a massive margin, while Governor John Kasich of OH came in second, followed by Cruz and the former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
Who are they going to be?
Of the 779 likely voters polled, 36.3 percent said they favored Donald Trump. The survey was conducted following the results of the New Hampshire primary.

Saturday’s debate could be a game-changer, said David Woodard, a political science professor at Clemson University.
