Everton’s Martinez to make late call on Stones return

Roberto Martinez has defended Everton after they lost 1-0 to West Brom, saying they did nothing wrong.

“We are not in a situation to lose any players and Phil Jagielka is our club captain”, Martinez told reporters on Thursday. It’s important that Tim doesn’t feel all his good work has been forgotten’. Down the line, you’ll be looking back on one of Everton’s greatest goalkeepers and appreciating that he is an ambassador for the club.

“I think it is a good idea that the England camp gets together and they can review what they’ve done and prepare and have a bit of a vision going forward”. That has happened not only to Tim but any player who has represented a big era at a football club. While Baines is likely to remain on the bench, a late decision will be made on the fitness of goalkeeper Tim Howard and defender John Stones ahead of the visit of the Baggies.

But Martinez said: ‘I wouldn’t say there is a lack of respect from the fans.

“Our away record has been the best, even better than two years ago”, said the Spaniard. That is what you want.

“You are never going to have clear-cut opportunities against West Brom because of the amount of bodies they have around the 18-yard box but I thought we never got frustrated and the dominance in our performance deserved a better result”. “Of course we are”.

Bryan Oviedo, meanwhile, has signed a new contract until 2019 with Everton.

China has emerged as a break-out player in the transfer market as clubs in the country’s Super League spent £116m on players in 2015, a 65% increase from the previous year and a far higher increase than the modest 8% jump found in Premier League spending in the same period.

“A young man deserves to play 100 games before he can be judged”. I think it would be a loss if we do that.

“He’s nowhere near the level I’d want him to be and nowhere near the level he would want to be”. “He’s nowhere near as sharp and fit as he was previous year so he needs game time”.

“Is it a vicious circle?”

“There’s plenty more games to go and we’re in a position where you look to the bottom, but we’re only four or five points from pushing for seventh or eighth”.

Victory on penalties against Peterborough United saw Albion move into the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday, but they have not tasted victory in the league since January 2. West Brom were organised, they were going to take 30 seconds over every dead-ball.
