Ex-Kentucky Star Karl-Anthony Towns Wins NBA’s Taco Bell Skills Challenge

Karl-Anthony Towns and Isaiah Thomas would be considered a mismatch wherever they met on a basketball court.

State Farm All-Star Saturday Night featured the Taco Bells Skill Challenge, the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest and Verizon Slam Dunk Contest.

The NBA is supposed to be a small man’s league, but don’t tell that to Karl-Anthony Towns.

“Oh, I came in today at I think it was 11:00 in the morning and got a practice run”, Towns said after the competition.

Towns’ victory was certainly unexpected.

The Minnesota big man beat the player expected to represent the forwards in the finals, Draymond Green, then beat Anthony Davis to advance to the finals.

Thomas beat McCollum in the second round and Towns defeated Cousins in their second-round matchup. McCollum, meanwhile, looked plenty comfortable in Round One but lost the handle in Round Two, perhaps thinking ahead to the 3-Point Shootout later tonight, allowing Thomas through to the final.

The final round between Towns and Thomas went down to the wire, but Towns’ three-pointer went down first, giving him the title.

The game may have just changed forever.

Towns, the No. 1 overall pick out of Kentucky who stands almost 7 feet tall, won in the first time the competition was opened up to include frontcourt players.
