JNU’s Afzal Guru event had support from Hafiz Saeed: Rajnath

In a weird statement, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the “anti-national” protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University had the support of Hafiz Saeed.

“I additionally need to make it clear that the JNU incident has the help of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed”. Nation must also accept the reality that the JNU incident has been supported by Hafiz Saeed.

Going hammer and tongs against the government, Rahul said, “People who suppress voice of this institute are anti-national”.

Attacking the opposition for politicising the matter, Singh said it should refrain from taking political mileage from the issue. “I have given the necessary instructions, I have also instructed that those who are innocent should not be harassed”, he said.

“I seek cooperation and support from all political parties &people from all walks of life to join hands in fight against anti-national forces”, he said in a series of tweets.

In the alert, Delhi Police had also pinned a tweet by the handle named HafeezSaeedJUD which says, “We request our Pakistani brothers to trend #SupportJNU for our pro-Pakistani JNUite brothers'”.

Kanhaiya Kumar, the president of the JNU students’ union, was arrested on Friday, charged with sedition and conspiracy, and sent to police custody for three days.

The police have formed teams which are looking for 13 other students for their alleged involvement in the event.

“If anyone raises anti-India slogans, tries to raise questions on country’s unity and integrity, they will not be spared. But the guilty will not be spared”, he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. Anti-India slogans were allegedly raised at the gathering.

This tweet was widely used by the RSS supporters to vilify the left leaning students of the JNU.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “What is happening is extremely unsafe”.

The arrrest of Kumar, a leader of CPI-affiliated student outfit, set the two sides on the warpath, with the government declaring that the varsity can not be allowed to be a “hub of anti-national” activities.
