The National Weather Service says up to 5 inches of snow is expected by Monday morning before turning to rain by the afternoon.

High temperatures will struggle to reach above freezing Sunday before warming into the mid-30s Monday afternoon, the Weather Service said.

Drivers can expect reduced visibility and slick roads. The Pocatello, American Falls, Aberdeen, Blackfoot, Fort Hall, Shelley, Idaho Falls, Dubois, Arco and Rockland areas are expected to see a rain-snow mix with little snow accumulation.

Regardless, another small rain/snow chance approaches with a clipper system on Tuesday before we warm into the 50s on Thursday and 60s on Friday. There is a marginal risk for strong storms Monday evening as warmer air moves in from the coast.

Ice Storm Warning: Heavy accumulations of ice will create extremely unsafe travel, damage tress and likely cause extended power outages.

A light glaze of ice will be possible on exposed objects and roadways, according to the weather service.

In anticipation of a messy start to the work week, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire area, starting Sunday evening and lasting through Tuesday morning.

For northern Fairfield communities including: Danbury, Ridgefield, Wilton, Monroe, Shelton, Bethel, Brookfield, Weston, Redding, Easton, Newtown, and Trumbull, snow is expected after 3 p.m.

Most areas of the Midwest should pick up less than 6 inches of total snowfall. There is a chance of a few snow showers late day and it could mix with some rain.

Valentine’s Day more snow is on tap with new snow accumulation of around 3 inches possible.
