All six candidates for the Republican presidential nomination urged the Senate to block President Obama’s expected replacement for the newly vacant Supreme Court seat.

Signalling that Obama would face a stiff battle to win confirmation of a nominee before he leaves the White House in January, McConnell said in a statement that the vacancy on the high court “should not be filled until we have a new president”.
Scalia’s replacement would be Obama’s third appointment to the nine-justice court, which is set to decide its first major abortion case in almost 10 years as well as key cases on voting rights, affirmative action and immigration.
“I plan to fulfill my constitutional responsibilities to nominate a successor in due time”, Obama said. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Republican who controls the chamber’s calendar, said in a statement that the vacancy “should not be filled until we have a new president”.
“His legacy will be as an intellect who influenced our nation and the court as a clear, consistent voice of conservative principles.” said U.S. Senator Thad Cochran.
Widely held to be a moderate, he mostly defended views other than his own, arguing for both Republicans and Democrats. “Apparently they believe that the Constitution does not allow a Democratic president to bring forth a nominee to replace Justice Scalia”.
My prediction is that President Obama will pick someone quickly of impeccable credentials.
In the wake of the sudden death of Supreme Court Justice, Antonin Scalia, CBS46 tracked down Emory Law School professor, Sasha Volokh, to help explain what this means for the future of this country.
Support for Obama’s position of nominating a successor came from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), while Sen.
“The court has a lot of pressing business and it would hurt the court not to have a ninth justice during the next several months”, Hanson said.
All of this ensures that the Supreme Court will be a far more salient issue in the presidential election.
The president also saying that when he names a nominee, he hopes the Republican-led Senate will fulfill its responsibility and give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote. We’re going to have an election for President very soon, and the people will understand what is at stake in that election.

Frontrunner Donald Trump said he hoped the Senate would use the tactic of “delay, delay, delay” until the election.
