Winter Weather Advisory for Ames through Sunday

Temperatures were expected to climb before a winter storm already bringing snow to the Midwest moves into the region for the start of the work week. Wind chill advisories or warnings may be issued through the weekend.

Tuesday morning rain could be heavy which will lead to some flooded streets in poor drainage areas. Go here to see an updated list of closings from WKYC Channel 3. A National Weather Service wind chill warning will remain in effect until noon, which warns of temperatures as low as 5 to10 degrees below zero. A wind chill watch is in effect from late Friday night through late Sunday morning.

Tonight, snow showers will be around in spots through the evening. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible. The chance for snow showers returns late in the day and will linger into Saturday morning.

The conditions rolling in this weekend could set record-low temperatures for the region where temperatures have been running 10-to-15 degrees above normal for the past month, according to AccuWeather. Chance of precipitation is 80%. On Cape Cod and the Islands, the weather system will being snowfall, which expected to total 3 to 4 inches, overnight Friday.

Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 30. West wind around 15 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The northeast side of the state is expected to accumulate the most snow. Tuesday’s forecast calls for a high near 35 with the wind chill making it feel a few degrees cooler.

Temperatures will be around 5 to 10 degrees Friday night with snow possible through Saturday. Cloudy, with a low around 33.
