4 more tested for Zika virus in Dallas County

It remains unclear exactly how the Zika virus, which could infect millions within the year according to health experts, is transmitted and whether it can possibly be transmitted through sexual intercourse.

Martino added that “most cases will be transmitted via mosquito, and this form of sexual transmission is likely to be a rare occurrence of infection”.

Prof Jonathan Ball, a virologist at the University of Nottingham, told the BBC: “Because we can detect a virus in a particular body fluid it does not mean that it will become an important source of virus for transmission to humans”.

This involves spraying a simple insecticide inside the aircraft to reduce the risk of passengers being bitten by any mosquitoes that could have entered the aircraft.

“We’re not aware of any other mosquito-borne disease with such devastating outcomes” of birth defects, Frieden said. If that happens, the chief medical officer for America’s Blood Centers said testing donor blood for the presence of Zika virus would be considered.
