Gowdy: Christie helped Dems by attacking Rubio
He’s endorsed using torture on foreign prisoners.

And yet, after notching his first in New Hampshire this week, Trump signaled that he’s ready to try a different tack.
Ted Cruz has county chairmen and a volunteer organization in every county, but he places an emphasis on evangelical conservatives. Voters in Iowa will cast the first ballots of the 2016 presidential election in caucuses across the state Monday.
Also Wednesday afternoon, Sanders’ campaign announced it had raised $5.2 million in the 18 hours since the last polls in New Hampshire closed, a formidable sum that signals the self-described democratic socialist’s durability.
About a quarter of the GOP electorate Tuesday said they want a candidate who “tells it like it is”. If that’s borne out by other polls of SC this week, it’ll be strong evidence that Trump really does have a ceiling of around a third of the party even when he’s got “momentum” from a big win. And Republicans face the threat of having to settle for Ted Cruz, a politician many of them despise As a party, they’ll still probably wind up where they were going, but for the individual party elites it won’t be fun.
Mr. Kasich finished ahead of Sen.
Trump already has begun running an attack ad against Cruz in the Palmetto State, and it is very harsh. The primary and caucus map from here on out is a lot friendlier to Clinton. After a swift rise from federal prosecutor to governor to presidential candidate, his future is unclear as the term-limited 53-year-old returns to a state where polls show voters have wearied of him.
New Hampshire voters leaned more moderate on immigration overall than Trump.
James Berry, the manager at the Venus restaurant, said he wasn’t swayed by Bush’s argument for why he should support him rather than Trump. When Opinion Savvy polled the state last month, it found Trump leading at 32 percent, followed by Cruz at 18 percent, Bush at 13 percent and Rubio at 11 percent. This means he can win or do well in crowded fields like what we saw in Iowa and New Hampshire, but once the field is narrowed to a three or two person race he’ll be in serious trouble.
Christie wound up with 7.4 percent of the vote with 96 percent of precincts reporting.
The southern state is another chance to emerge as the viable alternative to the billionaire reality-TV star who snatched the race away from the GOP establishment.
Despite his popularity among many Republican leaders, he will ultimately need to start winning primary contests to remain competitive – especially as Trump and Cruz perform well.
Now it turns ugly, as the presidential campaign moves from the relatively positive terrain of Iowa and New Hampshire and heads for SC, where the bounds of political propriety are often severely tested. The vast majority of that was spent by a PAC supporting Bush.
Jeb Bush has drawn large crowds during his appearances in SC on Wednesday and Thursday after experiencing something of a comeback with a fourth place finish in New Hampshire.
A desire for changing the status quo made a big difference on the Democratic side, as well. “Even when called out by Christie for the mindless repetition, Rubio said again: “We are not facing a president that doesn’t know what he’s doing”.

Former President Bill Clinton will be in Atlanta on Saturday to urge voters to support his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in the Democratic race. Both members of Congress will campaign with Rubio this week in their home state. Clinton, meanwhile, will continue to attack the political feasibility of Sanders’ plans; expect to hear frequent Rubioesque repetition on how “progressives make progress” instead of making proposals that are “just not achievable”.
