What you may have missed from the South Carolina GOP debate
Even before taking the stage, Rubio and Cruz said the next president, rather than Democratic incumbent Barack Obama, should name Scalia’s successor.

George W. Bush retains wide appeal among Republicans, from evangelicals and business leaders to military veterans.
He made his most blistering attacks against Bush and his brother, former President George W Bush, who has many admirers in the Republican establishment.
Bush said he was exhausted of Trump attacking his family.
“I have said I will not do it at all, because if I say a word that’s a little bit off color, a little bit, it ends up being a headline”, Trump said.
Whether it was calling people a liar, a liberal, a bully, or a loser, nearly every presidential hopeful on the stage found something that drove them insane about another candidate – and let them know it. “They said there were weapons of mass destruction….”
The shout-out went further down the slope as Bush said Trump “has had the gall to go after my mother”, and Trump suggested that Barbara Bush should be running for the presidency instead of Jeb.
“The World Trade Center came down during your brother’s reign”, Trump said, adding: “That’s not keeping us safe”.
Still, Donald Trump enjoys a strong leading position on all the issues measured in this poll: the economy, immigration, terrorism, and bringing needed change.
“The very basic fact is Vladimir Putin is not going to be an ally of the United States”, Bush said. Not exactly Republican orthodoxy.
Cruz had accused Rubio of saying on Univision in Spanish that he would not repeal President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration.
“I don’t know how he knows what I said on Univision because he doesn’t speak Spanish”, Rubio shot back.
Cruz then spoke in Spanish.
On the other hand, Ted Cruz is not being able to impress more Republican fans.
His second-place finish in New Hampshire finally had Kasich who prefers to stay out of the fray playing defense on that decision.
Marco Rubio is the clear favorite among Republicans, while independents are largely divided between Trump, Kasich, and Rubio.
Mr Bush pushed back, defending his brother who will soon join Mr Bush on the campaign trail before the pivotal SC primary.
Bush played the aggressor again, saying that Kasich’s actions amounted to “expanding Obamacare” – a deeply unpopular concept among Republicans. Marco Rubio and Texas Sen.
Republicans began a final week of fighting Sunday for the SC primary, the day after a brawl-filled debate that exposed stark disputes over style and substance.
Bush and Kasich both see an opening in SC after Rubio’s stumbles.
While Rubio engaged in some acrimonious exchanges with Cruz, he also thoughtfully explained some of his policy platforms, such as his proposal for expanding the Child Tax Credit.
A new poll from CBS News and YouGov shows that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton continue to hold solid leads in SC.
The heated debate covered the economy, foreign policy, and immigration. His most notable line tended to be him referring viewers to his campaign website.
The party’s ninth primary debate on CBS pulled an average of 13.51 million viewers – the highest-rated candidate showdown since October 28 when 14 million watched CNBC’s event, according to Nielsen data. At one point he noted how people have told him he needs to “scream and jump and down – jump up and down like everybody else”. Protesters marched on the building chanting slogans such as “You want my vote, come and get my vote”. What we just saw? “I think the other candidates were doing that”, Lewandowski said. But he keeps hope alive.
