Apple has reportedly enhanced iPhone trade-in program, which allow users to receive credit for “damaged displays, cameras, and buttons” are “within reason”.

The error message has also popped up for users who had damaged their phones, and gone on using them without seeking fix. At that point the phone is rendered useless.
IF A mysterious error code called “Error 53” pops up on your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, brace yourself.
“Error 53” is shown in those devices in which the Touch ID has been repaired by non-Apple representatives or other stores approved by them. If the system found a mismatch – wherein the check fails – Touch ID and the phone will be disabled for good.
Apple told the paper that fingerprint data is protected using a ‘secure enclave, which is uniquely paired to the touch ID sensor’.
The technical problem has been described as “the plague” as unauthorised repairs void warranties and affected customers flock to Apple stores only to be turned away.
iPhones getting bricked are reported specifically when repairs are done to the home button, which has the touch ID fingerprint scanner integrated. “If a customer encounters Error 53, we encourage them to contact Apple Support”, a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.
If a device is completely non-functional or has no value, you can recycle your iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, PC or smartphone through Apple for free. This check ensures the device and the iOS features related to Touch ID remain secure, “Without this unique pairing, a malicious Touch ID sensor could be substituted, thereby gaining access to the secure enclave”.
The report says the idea behind the program is to get more customers to buy a new iPhone instead of sending in their current device for repairs.

Though this update makes sense, and is actually out there to protect the users privacy and security, the users have been issuing a major backlash over the iOS forums and other Apple support channels, as well as social media and sites like Reddit.
