Once it makes the new items available in its 7,100 US stores, Burger King will become the largest restaurant chain in the country to offer hot dogs.

Burger King plans to start offering its grilled hot dogs to customers across the United States on February 23, 2016. The Classic is $1.99 and the Chili Cheese is $2.29, or they come as a combo meal served with a small fountain drink and fries for $4.49. A chili cheese hot dog will be available as well as a classic dog.

The addition of hot dogs comes as Burger King tries to gain market share in an increasingly crowded fast food landscape.

Burger King is going to be selling hot dogs – in its biggest menu change in decades.

“In quick service, you can’t take yourself too seriously”, says Alex Macedo, president of Burger King’s North American operation.

“We made a bunch of mistakes and we learned a lot”, Macedo said, adding, that customers advised the QSR to stick to the basics. However, Burger King believes it has an edge over it since their hotdogs are grilled instead of boiled.

Maybe Burger King has been barking up the wrong tree? Restaurant Brands International, the Burger King parent company, will report its financial results for past year next week. The classic dog will have a topping of mustard, ketchup, relish and chopped onions.

“Team members have been watching training videos in which Snoop Dogg gives the lesson”, The Times notes.
