Legend kicked things off with the Commodores’ song “Easy Like Sunday Morning”, which was of course written by Richie.
Lovato took over to give her take on “Hello” as Richie was pictured in the crowd punching the air and singing along. Of course, Richie had to hit to stage to perform his upbeat dance hit “All Night Long (All Night)”. Finally, Tyrese performed a funky rendition of the Commodores 1977 classic “Brick House”.
Country’s own Bryan then took the stage dressed in black with the lovely ballad “Penny Lover” before Trainor joined with the always enjoyable “You Are the Sun, You Are the Rain”.
Even luminaries like Selma directorAva DuVernay were praising Lovato’s performance.

“This moment is a huge deal for me”, he told People before the performance. Can’t Slow Down won Album of the Year in 1984, and he’s also the recipient of three other Grammy Awards. Lionel Richie sings with conviction.
