Obama calls up Putin, asks him to stop Russian jets bombing Syria
Despite the territorial advances made in recent weeks by Assad’s forces, backed by Russian air strikes and military assistance by Iran, Jubeir said he did not believe the Syrian president would survive.

The conversation was “frank and constructive”, the statement from the Kremlin said, adding it had been Obama’s initiative. Russian Federation began its airstrikes on September 30 and it has helped pro-Assad forces to make important territorial gains.
Daesh and al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate, the Nusra Front, are not protected by the temporary truce, which is set to come into effect Friday.
The two leaders also touched on the situation in Ukraine, especially the implementation of the Minsk accords.
In Saturday’s telephone call, Mr Obama stressed to Mr Putin the need to relieve the blockade of besieged parts of the war-torn country so humanitarian aid can be allowed in, according to the White House.
In particular, it said, Obama underlined the importance of Russian Federation “ceasing its air campaign against moderate opposition forces in Syria”.
He added that it was also an opportunity to deliver humanitarian aid desperately needed by Syrian civilians.
The Syrian Kurdish PYD party rejected Turkish demands for withdrawal, while the Syrian government said Turkish shelling of northern Syria amounted to direct support for insurgent groups. France also called on Sunday for Turkey to halt the bombardment.
“Let’s be clear about what this agreement does: it permits the assault on Aleppo to continue for another week”.
Speaking at a security conference in Munich, Hijab criticized the announcement that Russian Federation would not halt military action, questioning whether this was a “seriously acceptable position for the global community”. Common sense will not end the conflict in Syria, that takes leverage.Nicholas Burns, a former USA undersecretary of state in the Bush administration, said he expects Russian Federation to continue its air campaign until all supply lines to Aleppo are cut. That seems to be one of their objectives, he said in an interview in Munich.
“Russia has gained the upper hand in the region, and this is – by historical measure – a novelty”, Rottgen said.
Norbert Roettgen, German parliamentarian has accepted the views of McCain and said.
“Russia is determined to create facts on the ground”, Roettgen said.
