That has changed this week as the two companies have announced a brand new version of Hulu for Windows 10 that includes universal voice search through Cortana and a Live Tile.
While Hulu was already available on Windows 10 thanks to its Windows 8.1 app, this newest release allows for a more streamlined, universal viewing experience that works seamlessly across devices. If you download Hulu from the Windows Store (or update to the latest version), you’ll get the same app, but it will adapt its user interface to your device. Hulu Universal Windows App is now missing Xbox support but it will soon start running on Xbox as well.
But the app is also smart enough to know if you’ve never watched the show.
The new Hulu Live Tile displays new shows right in your Start Menu.
“We’re looking at how users interact with content and voice“, says Hulu. If anything, the experience is more like communicating with Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa on the Echo speaker where you have to call her up by name, then tell her which app needs to be launched.

Hulu is a popular streaming service just like Netflix which lets you watch your favourite TV shows and movies with a monthly subscription fee. You can even pick up where you left off, starting mid-episode, which is great if you started an episode on your phone and want to finish it on a bigger screen. “For us – and I think this is true of everyone investing in voice – it’s a long-term play”.
