She caught a Russia-bound flight from John F. Kennedy Airport about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, sources said. According to an unnamed source, when police arrived and knocked on the door, they were greeted by 56-year-old Eliot Spitzer.
New York City police on Monday said an investigation was ongoing regarding a woman’s claim that former Governor Eliot Spitzer assaulted her at a Manhattan hotel, while his lawyer said the alleged victim has recanted and apologized in an email. The injury was not sustained in the altercation, the official said. The couple broke up in December after about two years of dating. But she called a few hours later and asked that he return to the room, where she had become “highly emotional and was threatening self- harm”, he said. She did not affirm or deny whether the former governor actually knew the woman or was present at the hotel that evening.
Spitzer, a Democrat, earned the nickname “The Sheriff of Wall Street” during an eight-year tenure as state Attorney General that featured lawsuits and investigations that targeted corporate malfeasance. In 2013, Spitzer tried to get back into politics by running for New York’s comptroller position, but he ultimately lost the race.

In December the New York Post reported Mr Spitzer split from his wife and started a relationship with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s former spokeswoman Lis Smith.

The NBC journalist also pointed out that during his “attempted…career in television”, Spitzer was the host of “short-lived shows on CNN and Current TV”.
