Minnesota Wild Fire Head Coach Mike Yeo

The Minnesota Wild interim head coach, named to the position Saturday night after the team fired Mike Yeo, will get his first taste of home ice outside, against the defending Stanley Cup champions, with 50,000 fans looking on.

Yeo, who previously was an assistant for the Pittsburgh Penguins and head coach of the American Hockey League’s Houston Aeros, finishes his tenure in Minnesota with a 173-132-44 record. The Wild are now 23-22-10 this season with 56 points, which ranks second to last in the Central Division.

The Wild are now on an eight-game skid after losing to the Boston Bruins 4-2 on Saturday afternoon and have dropped 13 of their last 14. The team has too much talent to not be playing better and it is sorely disappointing for fans.

David Krejci broke a tie in the second period and Jonas Gustavsson made 31 saves to help the Boston Bruins beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Saturday. His team had made the playoffs the past three seasons. In three postseason appearances with the Wild, the Blackhawks knocked out Yeo’s squad all three times.

He probably understood that he might never again stand behind the Minnesota bench as coach of the Wild in front of a typical full house at the Xcel Energy Center. A few hours after relieving Yeo, the team announced Torchetti will take over after serving as head coach of the team’s AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, since November 2014.

Stars 4, Capitals 3: Tyler Seguin scored twice during a four-goal second period and Dallas held off Washington in a battle between two of the NHL’s top teams. Well-paid forwards like Mikael Granlund, Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek have not produced enough scoring.

Last year, the Wild traded for goaltender Devan Dubnyk and went 26-8-2 the rest of the way, finishing with the franchise’s second-best record ever. “But where we’re at resides with all of us, starting with me, with the players, with the leadership group, with everybody”. I believe it’s five teams.
