Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on Saturday vowed her country would host a successful Olympic Games this year despite the outbreak of the Zika virus.

It is also important to note that though the Brazilian government claims there is scientific evidence which links the Zika virus to microcephaly, in those 462 cases of confirmed microcephaly admitted by the Brazilian health authority, only 42 have shown “a relationship with the Zika virus”. Three of these patients have died because of Zika virus infection and six more suspicious deaths are under investigation.

“We believe that we’ll have considerable success exterminating mosquitoes before the Olympics, but we need all of you”, Rousseff said.
The Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947 and subsequently spread to parts of Asia.
Lyndon Lee Suy said the health department would continue to monitor and assess the situation in Brazil and come up with its recommendation by July, a month before the world’s biggest multisport event is to take place.
Zika usually causes mild flu-like symptoms in adults.
Health officials in Brazil have dismissed claims that a larvicide could be responsible for a rise in cases of microcephaly, and not Zika virus. For men and women combined, the exercise program did not significantly reduce fall injuries, but in men it was associated with reduced risks of serious fall injuries, broken bones.
There is deep concern for pregnant women because Zika virus may linked to a rare, but potentially devastating birth defects. The World Health Organization on February 1 declared Zika a global health emergency.
The new case was reported in Broward County.
There are now no vaccines or treatment for the virus, though research institutes and pharmaceutical companies are working on several possibilities. But if a virus enters these protected sites, it is much harder to fight them off. Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.

For most people, the risk of becoming really sick from the virus is minimal.
