Messi passes on penalty, serves up Suarez hat-trick

Pires had already scored one penalty in the match, which Arsenal went on to win 1-0.

Barcelona weren’t satisfied with simply beating Celta Vigo on Sunday, they wanted to prove they were the best team on the planet.

Suarez then scored his third when Messi, having been brought down in the box, cheekily kicked a penalty square allowing the Uruguayan to charge into the box and tap the ball in.

However, rather than shooting from the spot, the Argentine rolled the ball to his right for an onrushing Suarez to fire home.

Messi and Suarez are great players that do not need to resort to this sort of behavior to score goals.

Some described Messi and Suarez’s action as distasteful, but Iniesta is adamant Barcelona never disrespect any one.

Neymar after the game admitted the pass was meant for him, yet Suarez got to the ball first.

While Messi and Suarez took centre stage late in the 6-1 victory, it was yet another rainbow flick from their highly-talented Brazilian team-mate Neymar that perhaps had the biggest cause for Celta players to be unhappy with.

It has been claimed that it was disrespectful for Barcelona to score in that way, but Berizzo has claimed that he did not have a problem with what occurred. “It doesn’t matter who scores the goals just that we win the games”.

The French duo should have taken their cues from another Barcelona legend, Johan Cruyff, who pulled off a cheeky penalty one-two way back in 1982 for Ajax. We have always respected our rivals and the players we play against.

“It is a different way of taking a penalty, nothing more, I don’t think it showed a lack of respect”, he said, while Barca coach Luis Enrique, tried to play down and question that the goal could have been insulting to the Celta players.

“The most important thing is that the play worked”.

They made an ambitious start, Catalan youngster Josep Sene shooting at goal early on from outside the area, and had another chance to take the lead when Carles Planas’ shot was saved superbly by Claudio Bravo.

“We all remember Cruyff’s goal”, said Barca boss Luis Enrique.

“He has given so much to the team we see it unfair he is not recognised as he deserves, as unfortunately in football everything is measured in goals and we want him to get a goal for the club”.
