White House Seems To Rule Out Recess Appointment To Replace Scalia
Matt Streb, chairman of the political science department at Northern Illinois University, expects President Obama to nominate someone to replace Antonin Scalia and Senate Republicans to refuse to consider that nominee until after the election. “Senate Republicans must meet their constitutional responsibility to confirm a qualified nominee”.

“There are no caveats”.
The president, who leaves office in January 2017, said he would make his choice in due time. “There’s no exemptions for when a vacancy could tip the balance of the court”, he added.
But he said Obama won’t select a nominee immediately. “I would not anticipate an announcement this week, especially given that the Senate is out of recess”, Schultz said Monday.
Justice Antonin Scalia’s death deprives conservatives of a key vote that could change the outcome in some major Supreme Court cases.
Scalia’s loss will be felt as the Supreme Court takes up hot-button issues this session, including Obama’s immigration action, abortion, affirmative action in college admissions, voting rights and public-sector unions.
“This is for the people to decide”, Texas Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas joined the GOP’s wrongheaded group-think.
“President Obama has to make a decision”.
Following Scalia’s death, Republican leaders – GOP presidential candidates in particular – said President Barack Obama should not appoint Scalia’s replacement.
For his previous two Supreme Court picks, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, the president took about 30 days each to announce his selection after their predecessors, Justice John Paul Stevens and Justice David Souter, respectively, said they planned to step down. But the Senate confirmed Justice Anthony Kennedy in February 1988, a presidential election year.
Video of the forum is archived by CSPAN and a clip highlighting Grassley’s comment specifically was pushed out by the Democratic National Committee. The winning margin was not insignificant – about five million votes – but regardless of the number, voters gave the president four more years to lead the country.
Cotchett said Scalia’s death will have far-reaching effects.
It’s unclear who specifically Reid wants in the post.
Another potential nominee is Srikanth Srinivasan, who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
“I’m hoping that we will get somebody nominated that will get people saying, ‘Hey, the only reason you’re blocking this is pure partisanship, so do your duty, ‘” said Clinton, answering a question in the remote mining town of Elko. Klobuchar, in her second Senate term, is a former prosecutor and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota and Cory Booker, D-New Jersey. It is also possible that the Democrats could win back control of the Senate in the November 8 elections.
Each Obama nominee brought diversity, a sterling resume – and was solidly liberal.

Guevara told The Associated Press that Scalia’s personal physician, as well as sheriff’s investigators, said there were no signs of foul play. “McConnell proposed that both Democratic senators and, more importantly, Republican senators will say, ‘look, we don’t like who the president nominates and then it will be our prerogative to vote no, but at the very least, there ought to be a hearing and a vote, ‘” Schumer said.
