Former NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer Being Investigated for Possible Assault

New York City police on Monday said an investigation was ongoing regarding a woman’s claim that former Governor Eliot Spitzer assaulted her at a Manhattan hotel, while his lawyer said the alleged victim has recanted and apologized in an email.

According to attorney Adam Kaufmann, the woman had called Spitzer to say that she was traveling through NY to return to her native Russian Federation.

It was in 2008, when Spitzer resigned from office over a hooker scandal, saying afterwards, “the remorse I feel will always be with me“.

Spitzer attempted a political comeback in 2013, bit lost the Democratic primary for city comptroller.

Police are investigating witnesses and reviewing video in the area, 1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck reported. “I just read the news, I’m so sorry”, she said, offering to send a statement to the police “that my report was all fake”.

At the hospital, the woman reportedly told police that Spitzer had gotten violent with her after a verbal argument escalated into something physical.

Following reports of the alleged incident, his spokeswoman said: “There is no truth to the allegation”.

Travis first dropped her bombshell allegation against Spitzer at Roosevelt Hospital, where she was treated Saturday night for a superficial cut to her forearm that she said she inflicted on herself with a broken wine glass, sources said.

The woman told cops she broke a glass and cut her wrists after the fight, sources said.

Spitzer’s romantic life has been notably rocky these last eight years, a storminess one could plausibly attribute to what appears to be his consistently bad judgment.

Spitzer noted in his statement that Lis Smith, a 33-year-old public relations executive, was his girlfriend.
