Clinton tells Nevada workers she’s about more than 1 issue

“We’re going to surprise them here in Nevada”, he said. Clinton is under pressure to keep her wide lead among Latinos, while Sanders must erode it to show he has a path to the nomination that does not rely mainly on the young white voters who make up the core of his support base. Indeed, those who watched or read Clinton’s quote nearly immediately thought “We bet you do”.

SANDERS: Well, it’s the case of doing, like, endorsements, you know.

Communications director Emilia Pablo, who was born in Mexico and raised in California, believes young people will be drawn to Sanders regardless of their race or ethnicity.

SANDERS: It’s very important. They were more than half in ’08.

If Clinton wins the majority of the delegates at stake via primaries and caucuses, virtually all the people I have met and spoken to will accept that decision and vote for her in the general election.

During her speech, Clinton took another oblique shot at Sanders, as she did during the last Democratic debate, in which she implied Sanders was a single-issue candidate. Barack Obama in North Carolina’s Democratic primary.

“After months of looking at Bernie’s record and studying his positions on healthcare, Wall Street, predatory lending and the minimum wage, I came to the conclusion that Bernie’s position on the issues that affect my constituents in Georgia the most conform most closely to my positions”, said Fort.

Across town in an East Austin store front – volunteers for Clinton’s rival – Bernie Sanders were making calls.

Reihl-Molloy said she had to take a retail job when she couldn’t find work in her field of marketing and her husband – a construction project manager – had to move away for several years to work. The crowd did not appear to be disappointed at all, although they initially RSVPed for a Hillary Clinton event in this same location. But we must point out that Bernie Sanders also voted for that crime bill, but not for the welfare reform bill. Is this split generational? “That means the world to me”, Clinton responds, batting her eyelashes.

“We can not as a nation turn our back on the reality that we have more people in jail today”, Sanders said – punctuated by an “amen” – “than any other country on Earth”. “It will not surprise you to hear me say that I was deeply honored when he asked me to be secretary of state”. And for me, what it feels like is the effect of the Black Lives Matter movement. He instantly becomes one of the Vermont senator’s top surrogates in the South, where his campaign has picked up support from only a handful of black elected officials.

Of the 43 in Nevada, 35 are what is known as “pledged”, meaning they are bound to the winning candidate through the first vote of the national convention. Sanders needs their high turnout to win, so we’ll have to wait and see. “I want you to worry about my kids, and I have got to worry about your children and your grandchildren”. Thanks so much, Sam.
