Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio bring Titanic reunion tour to the BAFTAs

The actors were both winners at Sunday’s awards ceremony in London, with DiCaprio winning Best Actor for The Revenant and Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve Jobs.

Fellow British star Mark Rylance was named best supporting actor for his role as a Russian spy in Bridge Of Spies.

“This is pretty cold, this whole experience”, DiCaprio said when asked about “Titanic” and “Revenant” shooting experiences at the Bafta red carpet. In collecting his first BAFTA, he paid tribute to his mother and listed actors Daniel Day-Lewis, Gary Oldman and Peter O’Toole among his inspirations.

Irish emigrant saga “Brooklyn” was named best British film, a distinct category, while the documentary prize went to “Amy“, a powerful portrait of the rise and fall of singer Amy Winehouse.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” won an award for special visual effects, while “Inside Out” won in the animated film category.

The chair of Bafta Anne Morrison acknowledged the issue in her opening speech to the ceremony, which said those in the industry “have to admit” there is a problem.

“As an actor I’ve been influenced by so many British actors”.

Collecting her third Bafta, Winslet, 40, hailed director Danny Boyle as “amazing” to work with and called the film’s lead star Fassbender “an extraordinary actor”. Never one to play it safe on the red carpet, the Carol star has stolen the show in a dream of a dress, with a feathered skirt and embellished bodice.

“I suppose I was submerged in the ice a lot more, but look it was a team effort, we all knew what we were getting into”, he said.
