Bhupal Reddy was leading by over 38,000 votes at the end of 14th round of counting, Election Commission officials said. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Vijaypal Reddy lost the deposit, managing to get just 14,787 votes.
A total of 1,54,866 votes were polled in the election which registered more than 82 per cent voting, highest ever in the constituency so far.
TRS never won this assembly seat, while TDP could win it only once in 1994. The poll result came as a morale booster for TRS as the party continued its track record of winning all the bypolls that it contested since its inception.
Narayankhed was represented by Kishta Reddy and Congress leader Suresh Shetkar for years.

The bypoll in the segment, considered a Congress bastion, was necessitated due to the death Mr Sanjeeva Reddy’s father P Kishta Reddy. Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao said the thumping victory indicated the huge public faith in chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the TRS government. But Harish Rao relied on development mantra which helped the party win people’s hearts. The TRS candidate maintained consistent lead over his rivals right from the first round. Vijayapal Reddy of TDP was at third place with 40,405 votes at that time.
