Nokia to unveil mystery virtual reality product, report says
There have been some wonderful VR products shown off over the past year or so, but Nokia’s rumoured entry is perhaps the most interesting, in no small part because of its position in the market.

After selling its mobile phone business to Microsoft back in 2014, Nokia has not released any consumer products, but it has plenty of plans to get back into the game.
Although it’s still unknown exactly what Nokia’s announcement will be for in terms of device specifics, the latest details and report suggest Nokia will be unveiling some form of a VR device next week at their event.
Not many people think of Nokia first when they hear the phrase “consumer electronics”, but getting into virtual reality could help it to recover, especially because it would be competing against a long list of industry titans (like Facebook’s Oculus, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung, and HTC) fueling the VR hype.
The company has already licensed the Nokia name to sell one tablet, the N1 (in China).
According to the cited source, the virtual reality headset to be announced later this month comes from Nokia Technologies, the company that focuses on advanced R&D for licensing and new product businesses. Insiders speaking to Re/Code said that there will be a VIP event in LA next week where a major virtual reality project will be unveiled.

A Nokia Technologies representative declined to comment, saying the company does’t discuss rumors and speculation. At a shareholder meeting, Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri talked about “immersive imaging” as among the areas the company was pursuing.
