‘The Revenant’ bags top honours at BAFTA Awards 2016

The British awards, referred to as BAFTAs, are thought-about a portent of success at Hollywood’s February 28 Academy Awards.
The night was dominated by The Revenant, which won three of the biggest awards including best actor for DiCaprio. He said DiCaprio’s “talent and commitment” to the “risky project” had “kept the film breathing”.
Speaking to RTE News ahead of the ceremony, Fassbender said the ceremony was an opportunity for him to try and get chatting to some of his film industry heroes.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” snapped up best special visual effects for Chris Corbould, Roger Guyett, Paul Kavanagh and Neal Scanlan. Famed Italian film composer Ennio Morricone, 87, received the music award for his score to Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. Brie Larson won the best actress for the portrayal of a kidnapped mother and her child in the Film Room.
Sidney Poitier won the BAFTA Fellowship Award but could not be at the event due to ill-health.
“As an actor I’ve been influenced by so many British actors”. Leonardo DiCaprio he dedicated his award for best actor for his mother which was the birthday and his co-star Tom Hardy Briton, the first of four nominations in London.

And, while the movies and their leading stars were the main attraction of the night, there was stiff competition from the wide array of lovely gowns, with the likes of Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Dakota Johnson and Julianne Moore paving the way the sartorial stakes.
