Instagram Rolling Out Two-Factor Authentication to Protect Users From Hacking Attempts
According to a report TechCrunch the feature has been confirmed by Instagram and it will begin rolling out for users soon. As the tool requires additional information, to confirm if it is the right user, in this case the user phone number would provide that extra layer of security.

Getting your social media accounts hacked sucks, so it’s about time Instagram upped its security. From then on, any time you go to log in to your account, you’ll receive a text message with an authentication code. It’s become the industry normal, as it prevents hackers from using just an email and password to login, which could be obtained from a phishing scam. Delay to include the feature was putting Instagram users at risk and has even led to damaging hacks that led to financial losses.
Good news for all the Insta users, the network has added the option for two-factor authentication.
The tool allows Instagram users to verify a phone number.
Instagram’s move has been welcomed amidst growing privacy concerns but some commentators have criticised the relative tardiness of its implementation, with Facebook having introduced two-factor authentication a full five years ago.
The update hasn’t rolled out quite yet, but you should keep an eye out for app updates.
