Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s Accuser Now Says She Made Up Story

While in a hotel room booked in his name, the two started arguing because the woman wanted to return to her native Russian Federation, and Spitzer wanted her to stay, sources said.

Former Governor Eliot Spitzer has been accused by a Russian woman of choking her and tossing her to the ground. She later called Spitzer, who returned to the hotel “at which time he saw her becoming highly emotional and was threatening self-harm”, the statement said.

There’s another layer to this investigation, too; the woman was taken to the hospital Saturday night because of self-inflicted cuts on her wrists.

Spitzer’s lawyer, Adam S. Kaufmann, said the 26-year-old woman had told hospital staff that the former governor had choked her in an attempt to avoid hospitalization for emotional issues. She said she had cut herself and was having a breakdown, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak publicly about the case.

Sunday night, Lisa Linden, a spokeswoman for Spitzer said the allegations against him were false.

The media outlets cited police sources saying the woman, who claimed to be Spitzer’s girlfriend, was not co-operating with the investigation and did not want to press charges. The New York Times reported that she had claimed to emergency workers she had attempted suicide.

Police are investigating allegations that former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer attacked a woman.

The newspaper reports the woman is in her 20s and from Russian Federation.

Her relationship with Spitzer is not known.

“The victim has indicated that the subject is Eliot Spitzer”, the NYPD said. The police department issued a statement confirming that detectives were investigating the case. No other details were given.

She suggested that she made up the assault story because she was scared she would be hospitalized for a long period.

Investigators found that he did not spend public funds on prostitutes and he was not charged with a crime.
