“As teachers, students, and scholars across the world, we are watching with extreme concern the situation unfolding at JNU and refuse to remain silent as our colleagues (students, staff, and faculty) resist the illegal detention and autocratic suspension of students”, said the academicians, some of which are JNU alumni.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP brass will invoke nationalism and the government’s achievements during campaigning in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, to counter Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for backing the praise of terrorist Afzal Guru, hanged in Parliament attack case, said party sources.

A day after Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar denied giving permission to Delhi Police to enter the campus on February 9, a letter has surfaced which reveals that he might have hid some facts.

Few JNU students were attending classes, according to PhD science student Pamchui, who goes by one name.

The complainant had alleged that journalists and several students were assaulted by a Delhi BJP MLA and BJP supporters disguised as lawyers in the court premises where a sedition case against JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was to be heard.

Police also arrested Delhi University lecturer S.A.R. Geelani before dawn.

The college students allegedly shouted slogans hailing “Shaeed Afzal Guru” and in addition chanted anti-India slogans.

“Please let me tell you in what context I have said that”. We can not step in unless necessary”, a bench of Justice Manmohan said, adding, “The present writ petition is premature and is dismissed.
