Ohio State downs MI, keeps NCAA hopes alive

At the buzzer, Aubrey Dawkins was blocked by Lyle, an Ohio State freshman guard, as time expired. “They really gave us a hard time getting open shots”.

Loving, Ohio State’s leading scorer at 12.5 points per game and who was held scoreless against Rutgers on Saturday, finally got on the board at the 3:34 mark of the first half.

The Ohio State Buckeyes average 5.5 blocks per game, the 18th-ranked team in the country.

“The second half, I don’t know what happened, but everybody was feeling good”.

The Buckeyes come into this game 16-10 Straight Up (SU) and 13-13 Against The Spread (ATS).

MI scored seven in a row to cut the deficit in half, but Loving connected from 3-point range to put the Buckeyes back on top 55-45 with 10 minutes to go.

The Buckeyes have seen the over cash in their last three overall, and their lone setback at home in Big Ten play came in a 66-61 loss to the Maryland Terrapins as 4.5-point underdogs on January 31. The last three years, the victor of that game has gone on to win the Big Ten title. This is a final stretch with high-implication games. This was Michigan’s first loss against a team outside of the top-50, but coming on the road it wasn’t really a surprise for a team that’s rarely accomplished the unexpected.

This win matters, though.

MI and Ohio State each made only five three pointers in their matchup Tuesday night. That makes three OSU commits and four Buckeyes leans in five prospects on this countdown. Turner was the National Player of the Year in 2010.

It was the first win for Ohio State in the rivalry against MI since 2013.

72 hours later the Wolverines were on the road trying to win without offense once again, but the defense wasn’t there either. The nine-game win streak is the team’s longest since 2012.

“We’re still breathing”, Tate said after scoring 13 points and grabbing four rebounds. “We’ve gotta get it back”.

Ohio State took an 8-point lead into halftime and, after former Buckeye Evan Turner was honored with his jersey hung in the rafters at intermission, extended their advantage to 52-38 over the first eight minutes of the second half. The difference on Tuesday night was that he actually had some company.

“There’s no excuse for having a bad defensive game”.

Already committed to Kentucky, Warren is the #129 overall player in the nation and the #13 running back. The Wolverines couldn’t get almost enough stops as the Buckeyes shot 59.1 percent (13-for-22) in the second half. Penn State finally got the scoring started with an old-fashioned three point play before the two teams started trading proper three pointers.

“She can shoot the three, but she’s also got a really good mid-range game”, McGuff said.

“I thought the cohesiveness that this team has to play with was evident out there”, Matta said. “Nobody’s going to feel good until this game’s over and I thought they did a pretty good job with that”.

Whitted, who is naturally a forward but is playing most of her minutes in the five-slot now as the team has increased its pace of play (natural center Candace Agee has shown she is unable to match the pace of her teammates and her minutes have decreased as the season has progressed), showed off a slick spin-move in the post that she hadn’t possessed in her repertoire earlier this season.
