The epicenter is more than an hour’s drive from the Mammoth Mountain resort, but Lauren Burke, a spokeswoman for the mountain, said the temblor was felt there.
Andrews said that in California, after an event like the 4.8 quake, there’s a 5 to 10 percent chance that a larger natural disaster could occur.
It’s located about 90 miles east of Fresno and about 15 miles south of Bishop.
Carroll said she has lived in her home for nine years and “I had never heard that before”. That one was initially reported as magnitude-4.8 and then downgraded to 4.3. Online readers in Tulare County noted the shaking was felt there, as well.
“I thought something hit our building because there was a loud boom and everything shook for about four to six seconds”, said Cody Lawson, a dispatcher at the nearby Bishop Police Department. “It hit hard right off the bat”.
The Stanislaus County Office of Emergency Services tweeted the quake was felt in Modesto.

Lawson said some people in the dispatch center got under their desks.
