Lionel Messi scored his 300th La Liga goal for Barcelona against Sporting Gijon on Wednesday night.

Now Barcelona prepare to square off against a struggling Sporting Gijon side in midweek and Bravo will be quietly confident of keeping a clean sheet this time around.
The Catalan giants have played sublime football under Luis Enrique this season, mostly thanks to the fearsome attacking trio of Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Barca now have 60 points from 24 matches, six more than second-placed Atletico Madrid and seven ahead of Real Madrid.
His 25th minute strike ensured he became the first player in history to score 300 goals in Spain’s top division.
Barca promptly responded, though, as Suarez showed great strength to hold the ball up and then lay it off for Messi to fire into the roof of the net with the outside of his left foot.
Gijon had briefly levelled matters through Carlos Castro and gave a good account of themselves, with goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar producing several good saves, including from Suarez’s spot-kick.
Barca were successful in the first of their road-trip fixtures, next travelling to Las Palmas on Saturday before making their way to Arsenal next Tuesday for the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 clash.
Suarez was not to be denied, however, as he curled in a superb left-footed effort off the inside of the far post just five minutes later after muscling his way past the challenge of Igor Lichnovsky to take his tally for the season to 40.

As a result of Wednesday’s triumph, Enrique’s men have also extended their club-record unbeaten run to 31 matches, having last suffered against Sevilla in October.
