Pebble Beach Pro-Am Picks
‘I played 18 holes the last couple of days, once on Pebble and once on Cypress (Point), so if you’re not refreshed after doing that, I don’t know what’s going to refresh you. The top 60 pros and the top 25 pro-am teams advance to Sunday’s final round at Pebble Beach.

Brandt Snedeker returns to defend his title at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week but world number one Jordan Spieth is the headline act. Every seat taken. The room, as one reporter put it in a question to Australian star Jason Day, who only won the PGA Championship past year and is ranked No. 3 world-wide, was “heaving” for Spieth and half-empty for him.
Veteran CBS Sports on-course reporter Peter Kostis assesses this week’s potential story lines. “In a way that we have different sorts of golf courses, but it’s so lovely, even when it’s hard weather”. Owen is his partner when the tournament for 156 pros and 156 amateurs on three golf courses in the Del Monte Forest starts on Thursday. What comes to mind first? I’m still the same boring person I was before I won a Major. Outside of agriculture, golf courses consume more water than any other industry in California, according to the Oakland-based Pacific Institute. Saturday at Pebble Beach can be a distraction because it’s all about the celebrities, like the time Bill Murray tossed an elderly woman into a bunker. But Spyglass may allow you to separate yourself. “You tweet, there’s a good chance it can end up on ESPN… the kind of stuff that wouldn’t have happened before”. “You got to have the right attitude”. “If we’re starting to add up who owes who, I owe Kite and Wadkins and a lot of captains”.
Tiger hasn’t been back since, and may never be back considering his myriad health issues and disappearance from the elite list – he’s 440th in the world rankings, largely the result of inactivity. He does everything really well, but he is phenomenal with the putter. I will select one A golfer, 2 B golfers and 1 C golfer that I think will do well as well as one dark horse pick, this should space out the selections and provide a vast field to select from for anyone who is in a format where you are limited to 10 starts per year. “And it’s important for me to be there and see them grow up”.
Those who carry the golfers’ bags have other challenges.
That leads us to our next subject, which is another good putter, the defending champion Brandt Snedeker.
Day has not played since he missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open last month, while battling the flu. He has an accurate drive and strikes the ball in general very well. I had a putt to win from about 12 feet and I missed it and Jake celebrated and that was about it’. So if he was only 50 percent, he loses the tournament by four shots instead of winning by one. Spieth is playing four of the next five weeks and seven of the next nine events through the Masters. You have to look at ball strikers, so Dustin Johnson, a past champion, is also to be considered.

Harbaugh has played in this tournament before. Okay, maybe not. But it’s still a fun little diversion during a great day for golf. A victor of 23 national writing awards, including 20 for golf coverage, Shedloski is now a contributing writer for Golf World and GolfDigest.com and serves as editorial director for The Memorial, the official magazine of the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
