All eyes on Pau Gasol to Toronto Raptors deal at deadline

Right now, as K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune points out, the Bulls are $4.5 million over the tax.

Depending on who you want to believe, the Chicago Bulls are either “aggressively shopping” All-Star center Pau Gasol or simply listening to offers from around the National Basketball Association. The 35-year-old is in his second season with the Bulls, after winning two titles with the Los Angeles Lakers. Gasol apparently is the latest power forward in the list, and he might be available at a much cheaper price than all of those aforementioned players.

And since the two-time National Basketball Association champions is already there, he could also provide leadership and guidance to the team’s young crop of big men led by Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr.

The Kings could use Gasol, and they’re reportedly offering a pretty solid package to make it happen.

But, what about Pau Gasol?

Meanwhile, Taj Gibson remains confident that he will stay in the Bulls uniform after the February 18 National Basketball Association trade deadline despite all the rumors circulating around.

If Jackson makes a play for Gasol to be the ideal mentor to Porzingis, he always could attempt to trade Lopez, who has been effective since late December but also will make more than $13 million next season.

Joakim Noah was a front runner of the Bulls making a trade weeks before the Deadline, however, due to Noah’s season ending injury, he is of no value for other team’s interests. Sports, the Kings and Bulls have been in discussions over the past couple of days involving a trade that would send Gasol to the Kings in exchange for Ben McLemore, Kosta Koufos, and the Kings lowering the protection on a 2016 first-round draft pick that Sacramento owes to the Bulls. Pau Gasol is also having a good season, averaging 17 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.

Gasol is already planning on opting-out of his deal, so like we’ve said here many times; why not try and get something for him, instead of him walking and being left with nothing? It’s clear that Gasol has been a highly productive, stable force for Chicago in his short time with the organization.
