Petrosyan took to his official Twitter account to state that the Red’s will attempt to sign the 25-year-old.

The Germany international’s current deal at the Westfalenstadion is due to expire in the summer of 2017.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp brought the Serbian to Dortmund in 2008, but the defender has been used sparingly under Thomas Tuchel this season.

As a result, the report added, a summer bidding war could be sparked for the midfielder between Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as Serie A giants Juventus.

Gundogan has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying an additional six assists.
