The city found lead levels of around 400µg/l in her tap water, way above the statutory limit of 15µg/l, but blamed it on Walters’ domestic plumbing (which was in fact plastic). “We’ll let the investigations determine who’s to blame for Flint’s Water Crisis, but I’m focused on solving it”, Weaver says. She thanked Hillary, who spoke with the mayor and other local leaders privately after the speech, and credited her public concern with getting the state government moving to help the citizens of Flint.

“Do something about the pipes”, said resident Veronica Pitts. What that means is that little pieces of lead are flaking off pipes throughout the system.

So if a piece of lead makes its way to someone’s house, the resident could wind up with a situation like Lela Lovelace.

Volunteers are headed back to Flint in two weeks. “You can’t bathe them or nothing else – it’s insane”.

People have asked for Snyder’s resignation after thousands were exposed to high contamination levels of lead from drinking water.

“We’re recommend whatever you’re doing for water in your home you do for your pets, too”, she said. Results from 277 samples showed that one in six homes exceeded the 15µg/l threshold. My mother has to boil water to clean herself and use bottled water to prepare food and brush her teeth. Still, authorities claimed Flint’s water was safe.

Kildee has been urging the Michigan DEQ to approve some of the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund money in the form of low-interest or forgivable loans to replace lead service lines on private property.

They’re here to take a number of samples to give them a better idea of where the lead is coming from.

Residents have long realized that something was wrong – they just didn’t know exactly what. And he says it can happen anywhere at any time.

The Flint water crisis barely got notice in the beginning when the Curt Guyette, an investigative reporter for the American Civil Liberties Union, started exposing the problem last summer. However, as the lawsuits continue to trickle in, many are interested to see how everything plays out and who, if anyone, will be held responsible. But he says there’s a bigger chance of it happening in Flint right now. Unfortunately, this raised already high levels of chloride in the water, which broke down the protective scale inside the city’s lead service lines, allowing the metal into drinking water.

“My heart goes out, but this is a case that has spurred several investigations and has the attention of the president of the United States”. “We have to get new pipes”. Michigan Department of Environmental Quality officials have acknowledged they made a mistake when they failed to require needed corrosion-control chemicals to be added to the water.

“We deserve new pipes”, Mayor Karen Weaver said. Edwards’ tests showed that Walters’ water contained an astonishing 13,200µg/l of lead.
