Tennessee football player arrested, charged with aggravated assault

Johnson, the nation’s No. 2 junior college defensive tackle prospect in the 2016 industry-generated 247Sports Composite, is on a 12-hour hold after being charged with aggravated assault (strangulation) and false imprisonment, according to documents.

Alexis Johnson, a UT Football Vol newcomer was arrested in Knox County on aggravated assault charges.

Johnson signed with Tennessee in December.

Court records show that the incident happened early Sunday morning at Johnson’s apartment and involved a woman, who brought the charges. A witness told police Johnson has his hand around the throat of a former girlfriend.

“The defendant attempted to repetitively touch and kiss her and she repeatedly stated that she did not want to have sex with him”, the warrants state, per Dopirak.

As the woman, who previously dated Johnson on two different occasions, tried to leave bedroom, the report alleges Johnson blocked the door and said, “You think I won’t (expletive) you up?”

The Tennessee athletic department told the Associated Press Johnson had been suspended after the team became aware of the incident, but did not provide further detail.

Johnson, originally from Jonesboro, Ga., was a four-star recruit out of Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.
