For users, that is, not necessarily for Google, which has repeatedly denied that Google+ is in trouble.

“In an effort to ensure everyone has the best photos experience we can deliver, on August 1st we’ll start to shut down Google+ Photos – initially on Android, and soon thereafter on the Web and iOS”, said the company in a statement.

Customers who have already downloaded Google Photos have also praised the new service.

The Google Apps administrators had also sent out a letter to hangout users to enable Picasa Web if they wish to share pictures in hangout conversations.

The Google+ Photos users still have time to make a switch to the new app which is available on Android Google Play Store. All the photos and videos stored in the Google+ Photos application will be saved and available once you make the switch to the Google Photos app. The service will be replaced by Google Photos, which was announced two months ago.

Following complaints and confusion about the shutting down of Google+ Photos, the company has moved to clarify the decision and to deny claims that it is planning to close down its social network. However, the photos and videos can only be organized with date and location.

In the review of the latest Photos service of Google in their plan to shutdown Google+ Photos, Mashable notes that the service is “a smart photo organizer with lots of polish”, admiring the learning capabilities of its machine and assistant feature that is able to automatically create GIFs from a group of burst-shot photos. Apparently the best way to let people know you’ve added new features to your product is by removing the “+” from the name. “An easy way to find these is to visit the Photos tab of your Profile page”.

“The great photo and video sharing service that’s part of Google+ is unaffected”, Sabharwal said. Google launched Google+ as a competitor to Facebook but failed to attract users. “The reality is that maintaining both Google+ Photos (the private photo management component of Google+) and Google Photos poses several challenges”, Sabharwal said.
