The United States Golf Association announced Wednesday that the 2023 US Open will be played at the Los Angeles Country Club, the first time since 1948 the city will host the major championship.

The USGA awarded the 2023 U.S. Open to Los Angeles Country Club and the 2024 Open to Pinehurst No. 2.

Last year, Pinehurst #2 hosted both the men’s and women’s opens in back to back weeks becoming the first ever course to complete that feat.

The Country Club in Brookline, founded in 1882 and the venue for the 1999 Ryder Cup, last held the U.S. Open in 1988 when American Curtis odd claimed the title.

‘The Country Club has a long-standing, valued partnership with the United States Golf Association, so our membership is very excited and proud to have been chosen as the host site of the 2022 U.S. Open, ‘ said the Country Club’s general chairman for the 2022 U.S. Open Will Fulton. So California gets three Opens in the next eight years overall.

Not only will everyone love the course, the scenery of the Los Angeles hills and mountains surrounding the Los Angeles Country Club is breathtaking. It has never hosted a major championship of any kind.

The U.S. Open will go to The Country Club in 2022, the course outside Boston that was the scene of perhaps the most important golf championship in American history.

Riviera might not be out of the question for another Open in the future. “It’s a composite course, which means there’s more than 18 holes at The Country Club, and for the U.S. Open we actually will use parts of all three of those (nine-hole courses)”.

The U.S. Open keeps coming back to Pinehurst. Fast forward one week and speculation was confirmed, as the USGA formally announced the Open will return to Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024.

The USGA did not mention whether it will try another U.S. Open doubleheader. Rees Jones completed renovations prior to the 1999 U.S. Open.

The 2016 U.S. Open will be played June 16-19 at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club. “Some say it’s our St. Andrews – it’s certainly something special, and that’s why we’re going back there for the 2024 U.S. Open”.

Pressed to pick an early-line favorite for the 2024 U.S. Open, Pashley said Jordan Spieth, this year’s U.S. Open champ, will be just 30. He noted the USGA typically makes an announcement on a U.S. Women’s Open site about two years after its U.S. Open selection, but added, “We’ve had no conversations at this point”.
