Dwayne Johnson developing ‘San Andreas’ sequel

They should have learned their lesson in last year’s San Andreas when Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) took an natural disaster by the back of its neck and made it tap out.

While the film may not have received critical acclaim, it did do tremendously well at the box office which would explain why a sequel is in the works. Indeed, New Line has secured much of the original team to return, including director Brad Peyton – who will also helm Rampage with Johnson – and producer Beau Flynn. Dwayne Johnson starred in the 2015 film as a search and rescue helicopter pilot and will return for the sequel along with Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti.

Though THR writes, with a vaguely troubling pun, that “plot details for the new installment are being sheltered”, San Andreas 2: Sans Andreas will “expand the disaster locales by going global”.

According to the USGS, 90% of the world’s earthquakes occur in the 25,000 mile stretch that borders four continents. Peyton and Johnson will also produce this time around. Brown will oversee for New Line while Wendy Jacobson will oversee for Flynn Picture Company. Wendy Jacobson will oversee for FPC.
