The rapper and Sanders supporter said he had a conversation with a woman named Jane Elliott, who he quoted as saying, “A uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States”.

Whether or not Render quoting Elliott is indeed sexist, the pushback against the Run the Jewels member is the latest in a string of allegations of sexist behavior by Sanders supporters.

“She is not afraid to be constructively critical”, Bernie Sanders said. “I put every politician I have voted for or against on a table, on a tracing paper, and see how their policy matches up with the social justice policy of Dr. Martin Luther King”.

Dr. Johnson reminded viewers the clip that essentially went viral did not contain Mike’s entire statement, in which he also explains having a “policy that’s reflective of social justice” as being part of the qualifying factors of someone running for the highest office in the land. On Twitter, his remarks were first reported as this, presumably a swipe at Hillary Clinton: “A uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States”. Gloria Steinem suggested during a talk show interview that young women were chasing boys in the Sanders camp, and Madeline Albright repeated her well-known phrase that there is a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women.

Sanders sits with Killer Mike at the Busy Bee Cafe in Atlanta in November 2015.

“So women are bing told not to vote Hillary is sex betrayal and because another progressive woman says something disagreeing I’m sexist?” he questioned. I’m ready… But i don’t and never will Hate or think less of woman. Sen.

I sincerely see this woman as one of my greatest teachers.

But with his comments Tuesday night and the handling of the subsequent backlash, the rapper has demonstrated that his willingness to listen to women has its limits.

Momentum seems to be on Bernie Sanders’ side after his 22-point win in the New Hampshire primary and a close finish in Iowa. “I think in a presidential race, we look at what a candidate stands for and we vote for the candidate we think can best serve our country”. “Sanders’ top surrogates have made comments, to say the least, that are off script”.
