Biden: Obama’s Supreme Court nominee will have Republican appeal
Although it’s true that it’s rare for Supreme Court justices to be nominated in an election year, that is largely because Supreme Court vacancies themselves are rare and have, by chance, not occurred during many election years. His death stands as a tragic loss for our country.

Asked about the unprecedented GOP obstruction threatened by Republican leadership in the Senate and every Republican presidential candidate during an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Thursday night, the Vice President laughed it off as an example of “the tail wagging the dog”.
If any Obama nomination doesn’t get approved, the vacancy will have lasted more than 340 days until a new president, and who knows how long before the vacancy is then filled.
It’s unclear how long it will take for Obama to put forward a name. Obama now said he “regrets” that decision. They’d rather the Senate simply push through yet another lifetime appointment by a president on his way out the door.

“I have been very clear that the Senate should not confirm any nominee in a lame duck session”.
Republican leaders were working to turn the tables on Democrats.
Bush not only attended the funeral of Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist but also eulogized Rehnquist. This was during President Nixon’s first term when his first two nominations were voted on and rejected.

“The president, obviously, believes it’s important for the institution of the presidency to pay his respects to somebody who dedicated three decades of his life to the institution of the Supreme Court”, said Josh Earnest, White House spokesman.
