Cahill has backed Mourinho’s pursuit for the England global and believes Stones’s career will progress significantly for both club and country if he moves to Stamford Bridge.

The defender is considered one of the best in the Premier League and as Chelsea look to defend their league title in the coming year, it is clear they want Stones at the heart of the defense. “That’s not the way we would do it at Everton, we wouldn’t speak about a player who is registered with another club”, he continued.

The Chelsea boss said: “At the moment they say: “We don’t accept this bid”.

“We made a bid because we like the player”.

“I would advise Roberto Martinez to do the same thing I do”.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has claimed John Stones is “the best centre-back in England”, report the Newcastle Chronicle (via the Daily Mail). We are not a selling club in that respect. Next year we are going to make the first bid on the first of September. We didn’t make an offer on September 2 or in March or two days before we play against Everton.

A stylish defender, his former Barnsley manager David Flitcroft said in 2013 that Stones was an “exceptional player” who was “physically dominant” possessing lots of energy with a host of attacking capabilities.

“It’s a good market”, he continued. I don’t even criticise them. he told the Echo.

They suspect the player’s comments are part of a strategy by the Premier League champions to lure Stones to the capital.

“The other side is the disappointment of seeing a football club making such a statement to the press and making it so openly. That’s why smaller clubs, if they have interesting young English players, they use that in the right way for them”, he said.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s opening 2015 worldwide Champions Cup game against the New York Red Bulls on Tuesday, Mourinho insisted that Chelsea could afford Stones and didn’t have an issue with having to pay over the odds for young English talent.
