You can tap and hold any conversation and you will spot a feature at the menu.

In the new update for the Android app, messages can be marked as “unread” by tapping and holding the conversation. You can choose the sound the app makes between individual or group chats, but that’s about it. This means that if you wanted to separate notifications from different contacts, you’d be out of luck, at least until now thanks to an upcoming update. They are given a green status, serving as a reminder for users to reply to someone another time. Custom notifications, as the name suggests, let’s you select a particular kind of notification for each of your friend. In addition to these features, WhatsApp is also adding a low data usage setting to voice calls, which will ensure that minimal data is used while making voice calls on the app. It’s a good feature to have, especially if you rely on WhatsApp voice calling while on the go.

WhatsApp doesn’t seem to have pushed its latest version to Google Play yet, but you can download it from the company’s site.

Google Drive Backup usage details have also been updated quietly in the Network Usage section under Account settings. It essentially lets you change the status of specific messages to unread. Like we said this applies to pretty much every conversation you’re in. But in case you are desperate to get these features, you can download the update from the v2.12.194 from APK mirror.
